Pike County was established on December 9, 1822 from Monroe County (portions of Pike County were used to help create the following counties: Upson (1824), Spalding (1851), and Lamar (1920) )

The county was named in honor of General Zebulon Pike (1779 - 1813), explorer and a hero of the War of 1812.
