When was Monroe County, GA Created?
Monroe County was established on May 15, 1821 from Creek Cession of 1821 (portions of Monroe County were used to create the following counties: Bibb and Pike (1822), Butt (1825), and Lamar (1920) ). The county was named in honor of James Monroe (1758 - 1831), the fifth President of the United States and the creator of the Monroe Doctrine of 1823.
