When was Marion County, GA Created?
Marion County was established on December 14, 1827 from Lee County and Muscogee County (between 1827 to 1876, Marion County gave up land to Chattahoochee, Crawford, Macon, Muscogee, Schley, Sumter, Talbot, Taylor, and Webster counties. ). The county was named in honor of General Francis Marion (1732 - 95), the "Swamp Fox," a hero of the Revolutionary War.
