Jasper County Courthouse and Government Records

Researchers often overlook the importance of Jasper County court, probate, and land records as a source of genealogy and family history information. Buried away in Georgia courthouses and archives everywhere are the dreams and frustrations of many Georgia citizens. The chances are great that your ancestors have left a detailed record of at least some aspects of their lives in the Jasper County court records.

Please call the clerk’s department to confirm hours, mailing address, fees and other specifics before visiting or requesting information because of sometimes changing contact information. Even if your ancestor is not mentioned in a Court case, consider all of the other procedures which could have lead to him or her appearing in court records.

The following indicates what vital, land, probate, and court records are in Jasper county.  The dates indicated below are the first known records for each county.

  • Jasper County Courthouse (all departments listed below are located here, unless otherwise noted)
  • Jasper County Clerk of Superior Courthas responsibility over felony cases, cases regarding title to land and equity, declaratory judgments, habeas corpus, mandamus, adoptions, name changes, divorces, child custody, and child support enforcement. The clerk is responsible for recording deeds and maintaining the chain of title to all property in the county.

  • Jasper County Clerk of Probate Courtduties cover all legal proceedings that deal with Wills, Estates, Guardianships of minor children, Involuntary Committals Hearings, Issuance of Marriage License, ect.. The office of the probate judge is the county office where the most significant genealogical records are created and maintained in Georgia.

    • Marriage Records: 1808; Birth Certificates. Some scattered birth certificates are available from the
      early 1900′s, these are mostly “delayed” birth certificates. Birth certificates
      from around 1920 to present are available. $10.00 each for a certified copy; Death Records. From the late 1920′s are available, a $10.00 fee is charged for
      each certified copy. ; Marriage Records. From 1808. A $5.00 search fee is required. A copy will be provided
      showing the book and page number.
    • Probate Records: 1809; Will and Estate Records from 1818. A $5.00 search fee is required. If the record
      is extremely long, the cost may be more. The Court will bill for any additional
      costs.
  • Georgia Department of Health has copies for copies of birth and death records since Jan 1919, copies of marriage since June 9, 1952 to 1996 and a Divorce records index since June 9, 1952. There is a fee for each copy requested. Please refer to the information to the Statewide Vital Records in Georgiafor current fees and application process.
