Poinsett County was established on February 28, 1838 and was formed from Greene County and St. Francis County. Parts of Poinsett County was used to form the following counties: Craighead 1858, Cross 1862. The county was named in honor of Joel Roberts Poinsett (1779–1851), a United States Secretary of War and namesake of the poinsettia.

  • Poinsett County Clerk of Circuit Court is the clerk of the circuit, chancery court, and juvenile court and usually acts as the ex-officio recorder of Poinsett county.
