Cross County was created on November 15, 1862 and was formed from St. Francis County, Poinsett County and Crittenden County.. The county was named in honor of David C. Cross, a Confederate soldier in the Civil War (the first elected Colonel of the Fifth (ARK) Infantry Regiment (C.S.A.) and local politician.
